What is “datafree”?
The term “datafree” refers to the user experience of being able to browse a website or app without using one’s own mobile data. If the person has a data balance, the datafree site or app can be used without consuming their own data. It can even be used when the person has zero data balance. The terms reverse-billing and zero-rating describe specific implementations that make the experience datafree for the end user.
---
Datafree means that the website or app does not use any mobile data.
Another term that is often used in industry is "reverse billed mobile data," which means that the experience doesn't use the end user's data balance; rather, it is reverse billed to the sponsoring company who will pay the aggregate data bill of all those who use the service.
Similar to toll free calling, reverse billed mobile data allows an enterprise to deliver content from a website, app and dedicated IP address to customers, employees or any other online audience at no mobile data cost to them, even with no airtime or data balance.
